Hardwood to High Stakes: Spencer Laurie’s Story of Resilience and Triumph
Spencer Laurie’s story starts where a lot of Ozarks sports legends do, on the hardwood. As a key piece of the 2002–2003 Kickapoo Chiefs state championship team, Spencer helped build a season that’s still talked about today. That success carried him into college basketball at Mizzou and Missouri State, but his journey didn’t stop when the final buzzer sounded.
Life after basketball brought new arenas, including leadership within his family’s business, Stamina Products, and eventually, a whole new kind of competition.

Redefining Strength
After being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, Spencer didn’t step back, he leaned in. That challenge sparked a drive to test his limits through triathlons and ultra-marathons, pushing his body and mindset further than ever before. What followed wasn’t just physical transformation, but a complete shift in how he defines resilience, purpose, and growth.
In this episode, Spencer reflects on the bonds formed during Kickapoo’s championship run, the influence of Coach Roy Green, and the competitive fire that still fuels him today. It’s a conversation about adversity, identity, and finding meaning long after the spotlight fades.
