Setting the Standard: Kelly Richardson’s Vision for Drury Volleyball
Drury Volleyball is entering a new era, and Head Coach Kelly Richardson is stepping in with both deep roots and a clear vision.
Richardson’s journey through the Southwest Missouri volleyball scene is nearly unmatched, a path that’s taken her through the 417 club circuit and multiple collegiate levels. One host even dubbed it a local “Quadfecta,” a testament to just how connected she is to the volleyball culture that surrounds Drury. For Richardson, this role isn’t just another coaching stop, it’s where her passion for college volleyball feels most at home.

She inherits a program with a strong foundation, and that’s exactly what excites her. Rather than rebuilding, Richardson sees an opportunity to elevate, blending tradition with the realities of today’s college athletics. From the transfer portal to NIL, she doesn’t shy away from the changing landscape, instead viewing it as a tool to grow the program and expand its reach.
Recruiting is where her local insight shines. The 417 area remains a priority, but Richardson also recognizes the advantage of nearby volleyball hotbeds like Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago, and Dallas. For her, recruiting goes beyond talent, it’s about relationships. Building trust early with athletes and their families is central to her approach and something she believes sets programs apart.
Richardson’s coaching philosophy is grounded in growth, for her players and herself. With experience across Division I and II levels, she values learning, adaptability, and surrounding herself with people who challenge her. She’s also a proud advocate for Division II athletics, pointing to its strong sense of community, competitive balance, and meaningful development both on and off the court.
Energy is a constant theme when Richardson talks volleyball, and it’s clear she plans to bring that intensity to Drury’s sidelines. Backed by a family that lives and breathes sports, and fueled by a genuine love for the game, she’s focused on developing athletes who compete hard, represent the program well, and stay connected to the community. As Drury Volleyball turns the page, Kelly Richardson isn’t just leading the next chapter, she’s setting the standard.
