Scott Hovis Previews a Big Season for Missouri Golf
Golf across the Show-Me State is gaining serious momentum, and Scott Hovis, Director of the Missouri Golf Association, joined the show to talk about what’s ahead. One of the biggest developments is the launch of the newly rebranded Stan Utley Junior Tour, created to honor Missouri golf legend Stan Utley. The tour focuses on golfers ages 8–18 and is designed to give young players more opportunities to compete, grow their game, and pursue college golf at multiple levels, from Division II to NAIA.

The response has been overwhelming. Early events on the tour sold out quickly, showing just how strong the interest in junior golf has become across Missouri. Utley himself is staying closely involved, making appearances and hosting clinics to help mentor the next generation of players. It’s all part of a larger mission by the MGA to keep growing the game and providing meaningful pathways for young athletes.
Beyond the junior ranks, Missouri’s amateur golf scene continues to shine. The state now boasts one of the strongest amateur fields in the country, and major events like the Missouri Amateur Championship are helping showcase that talent. The championship will return to historic Milburn Country Club for the first time since 1992, highlighting the region’s deep golf history and competitive tradition.
Meanwhile, the MGA’s popular Senior Series continues to thrive for golfers over 50, emphasizing accessibility, competition, and camaraderie. With golf participation booming since the pandemic, the demand for courses and tournaments has never been higher. From securing premier venues, including courses connected to Johnny Morris, to supporting rising stars like the Munzlinger family, the future of Missouri golf looks incredibly bright.
