The title game itself was anything but easy. Bunker faced the state’s second-ranked team, Brunswick High School basketball, in a battle that tested the Eagles’ resilience. Coach Gorman credited his team’s adaptability and composure for overcoming early challenges and finding ways to respond when momentum shifted. That ability to adjust, combined with strong defense, rebounding, and disciplined offense, ultimately pushed Bunker across the finish line.
A major spark throughout the postseason came from junior standout Brendan Malloy, who delivered back-to-back 33-point performances in the semifinal and championship games. Malloy’s scoring explosion made headlines, but Coach Gorman emphasized that Bunker’s success came from balance. With multiple players capable of scoring in double figures, Malloy didn’t have to carry the entire load. Instead, the team’s depth created space for big moments—and Malloy delivered every time.
For Coach Gorman, the championship is the culmination of a philosophy built over decades. A longtime educator and mentor, he’s spent years developing players from elementary school through high school, shaping both their skills and their character. This particular championship team had been growing together for six years, dating back to junior high. By scheduling tough non-conference opponents from larger classifications, Bunker prepared itself for the biggest stage, and proved that with hard work, smart coaching, and a tight-knit community, even the smallest towns can produce championship moments.
