Hammons Field Becomes Route 66 Stadium in Historic Local Partnership

A major piece of Springfield’s sports identity is entering a new era. The home of the Springfield Cardinals is officially being renamed Route 66 Stadium, marking a first-of-its-kind collaborative naming rights agreement. The partnership brings together O’Reilly Auto Parts, the City of Springfield, Missouri State University, Mercy, and the Cardinals — all tying the ballpark’s future to the legacy of Route 66 and the region’s identity as its birthplace.

Originally opened in 2004 as Hammons Field, the stadium will transition quickly, with new signage rolling out in the coming days. The final game under the Hammons Field name is set for April 26, with the official debut of Route 66 Stadium scheduled for May 5. Leaders across the partnership emphasized the move as more than a name change, it’s a long-term investment in community pride, history, and the future of baseball in the Ozarks.
