Catholic Lady Irish Soccer Building a Postseason Run
Catholic girls soccer is making a real postseason push, and it starts with the Lady Irish finding their identity at the perfect time of the year. Sitting at 12–3, this is a team that has leaned into pace, pressure, and chemistry on the pitch, and it’s showing up in results. Under second-year head coach MacKenzie Serrano, the Lady Irish aren’t just competing in matches, they’re setting the tone in them as districts approach.

What makes this group so unique is how young they are, especially on the field. Six freshmen are in the starting rotation, supported by sophomores and a small veteran core, but you wouldn’t know it watching them play. The ball movement is sharp, the pressing is aggressive, and the understanding between lines looks far beyond a typical underclass-heavy roster. That chemistry has been built over years through the Springfield Catholic feeder system and club soccer, and now it’s translating directly into varsity success.
On the attacking side, the Lady Irish have been dangerous in transition, turning defensive wins into quick counter chances and finishing opportunities. In the midfield, the tempo control has been a difference-maker, allowing them to dictate stretches of play instead of just reacting. Even against larger, more physical programs across the region, they’ve held their own by playing organized, connected soccer rather than trying to match size with size.
Now the postseason looms, and everything tightens up, especially with a potential district showdown against Rogersville on the horizon. But this isn’t a team waiting to “see what happens.” It’s a group that’s already proven it can handle pressure, grow in real time, and compete beyond its experience level. And as districts arrive, the Lady Irish aren’t just part of the bracket, they’re bringing the game every time they step on the field.
