Building Players, Building Futures: Everett’s Plan at Central
Springfield’s Central High School is stepping into a new era with Sheldon Everett taking over as Head Basketball Coach, but his vision reaches far beyond the hardwood. With more than 35 years of experience as a player and coach, including stops at Miami (Ohio), Tennessee State, and South Carolina, Everett brings a deep basketball background paired with an equally established career in real estate with Keller Williams. For him, those two paths aren’t separate, they’re connected by a shared focus on structure, growth, and long-term development.

Everett’s decision to return to high school coaching is intentional. In a landscape he describes as increasingly “transactional” at the college level, shaped by NIL and the transfer portal, he’s leaning into what he calls the “transformational” side of the game. High school basketball, he says, offers something different, the chance to build relationships that last well beyond a season and to shape athletes during a pivotal stage in their lives.
At Central, Everett’s goal is focusing on creating a strong identity inside “The Pit,” building a home-court advantage fueled by energy, student engagement, and pride in the program. Just as importantly, he wants to develop players off the court, using lessons from both coaching and real estate to teach discipline, communication, and even financial literacy as part of their growth as young adults.
As he settles into the role, Everett brings a clear message: this is about more than basketball. It’s about mentorship, opportunity, and preparing players for what comes next. With a mix of high-level coaching experience and real-world business insight, he’s aiming to build something lasting at Central, one that impacts not just how the team plays, but who these athletes become.
