According to a news release, the board of directors shared his time as coach from 1983 to 2024, when he retired, influenced baseball across the country. Guttin had been only the second coach the program had had in its more than 50-year history. The board of directors said he led teams to nearly 1,400 wins total and 32 consecutive winning seasons.
The 2026 induction class will be formally added to the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame during the annual banquet in September at the Oasis Convention Center. This is the 40th induction class for the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame.
The Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame is a nonprofit foundation established to honor the area’s greatest athlete legends in all sports. This local organization believes that recognition of these remarkable sports people should endure and be recognized long after their careers have ended. Just as important is what Hall of Fame candidates do later in life, in giving back to others and society, with charity work, and mentoring young people.
