We sat down on The Starting Lineup with Fair Grove Eagles Athletic Director Damon Seiger to dissect a remarkable run of athletic dominance. Over his four-year tenure, the Eagles have racked up an unbelievable nine Final Fours and five state titles. From high-stakes coaching changes to elite multi-sport athletes making noise at the state level, Fair Grove is proving that small-town culture can build big-time success.

A New Era for Fair Grove Football

The biggest news out of Eagle country right now is the hiring of a new leader on the gridiron. After former head coach Bill Voorhis accepted a Class 6 football job, Seiger had to move fast in mid-May. Enter Josh Evans, who was officially announced as the new head football coach. Evans comes with championship pedigree, having served as defensive coordinator under Coach Grubbs during a state title run at Marionville before a recent stint at Buffalo High School. A former decorated player at Evangel University, Evans brings an elite character that fits perfectly into the tight-knit Fair Grove community values.

Championship Pedigree on the Diamond and Track

Spring sports are absolutely sizzling for the Eagles. The Fair Grove baseball team, ranked number one in the state this year, just battled through a brutal district tournament, sealing a 6-1 victory over Ash Grove. Coach Reed and Coach High Street have the squad primed for a massive Tuesday clash against historic football rival Lamar. But the talent doesn’t stop on the diamond. Seiger highlighted senior Jacoby McDanald, a district baseball champion who literally turned around the next day to qualify for the state track meet. That’s the power of the multi-sport athlete, a culture championed heavily by track coaches Coach Martin and Coach Michael Zanzi.

The Multi-Sport Small Town Advantage

While perimeter powerhouses like Nixa or Kickapoo boast massive student enrollments, Fair Grove thrives with a high school population of just under 400 kids. Seiger noted that instead of specializing, Eagle athletes play everything together. They’ve grown up together since third and fourth grade, building a unique cohesiveness that translates directly to wins. This across-the-board excellence is why Fair Grove has proudly hoisted the MSHSAA Commissioner’s Cup for two consecutive years, proving they aren’t just a single-sport school—they excel at everything.

Administrative Alignment & Facility Future

Great programs require great leadership, and Seiger shares an incredibly strong bond with upper administration. He credited much of the current culture to superintendent Dr. Christian Overstreet (his predecessor in the AD chair) and former leader Mike Bell. While the Eagles still proudly play on natural grass surfaces across baseball, softball, soccer, and football, the school has recently modernized with revamped scoreboards and a giant video board in the gymnasium.
