We talked extensively with Dan about the upcoming giveaway honoring the late, great Marty Prather—our community’s beloved “Sign Man”. Presented by the Loren Cook Company, this unique bobblehead honors a man who brought endless joy to hundreds of thousands of sports fans from Springfield all the way to St. Louis national television broadcasts. In a massive testament to Marty’s legacy, Dan shared that even the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame reached out to secure one for their permanent collection.

The Route 66 Stadium Renaissance

Art Haines and Scott Puryear dove deep into the logistics behind the historic renaming of the stadium. Dan shed light on the long legal process stretching back to the Hammons bankruptcy in 2017–2018, noting that a massive corporate entity actually tried to buy the naming rights despite not even having a location in Springfield! Dan pushed hard for a local identity instead, working with the city and Visit Springfield to establish Route 66 Stadium—the first program of its kind where community companies come together for the greater good. It’s already paying off, drawing travelers off the highway for photos and attracting major events like “Boom Ball”—a highly anticipated, Savannah Bananas-style entertainment experience hitting Springfield on July 11th.

From Future Major Leaguers to Barbie Days
