The 100-Year Floodplain Myth at Rivercut

Before we even got to the major, we had to check on the local conditions after some heavy storms rolled through Springfield and Ozark. Scott asked Rick about how Rivercut Golf Course handles the rising water. Turns out, the original architects designed the course around historical data showing the river would never breach the main course area. But as Rick points out, all the subdivision development, roads, and asphalt over the last 25 years have fundamentally changed how water absorbs into the ground, causing the river to hit the course at least four times during his tenure.

Wyndham Clark Outlasts Shinnecock Hills and Rowdy Fans

Moving to the US Open, Wyndham Clark pulled off a wire-to-wire victory to capture his second major championship, despite the wheels nearly coming off and Scott bailing out on his 46-to-1 betting ticket a bit early. Rick wasn’t totally shocked Clark survived, but noted that Scottie Scheffler’s cold putter ultimately took the pressure off the leader. More than the play on the field, we dove into the toxic fan atmosphere. From fans yelling “get in the bunker” to security escorting people out, Rick agreed that the rowdy, party-centric culture popularized by the Phoenix Open and the Ryder Cup is officially bleeding into major championships, and the USGA needs to step in.

Ned and Scott pushed Rick on why former dominant names like Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and Patrick Cantlay seem to vanish from the top of major leaderboards. Rick gave us a great insider perspective: the performance window for peak athletes is small, and once these guys sign multi-million dollar deals, get married, and have kids, maintaining that brutal, everyday hunger is incredibly difficult. Rick has watched her hit golf balls since she was eight years old and told us that even back then, the pure sound off her clubface was completely distinct from anyone else. Rick is 100% confident she has zero physical or mental weaknesses and is destined to be a winner on the LPGA Tour.
