World Cup Takeover: Michelle Boswell on Arrowhead Stadium, Fan Fests, and Global Soccer Mania

The World Cup has officially taken over North America, and the energy hitting the Midwest is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. To get a true taste of the global soccer mania happening right up the road at Arrowhead Stadium, we caught up with our good friend Michelle Boswell, co-host of the hit podcast My Mom Calls It Soccer. Michelle has been pulling double duty as both a die-hard fan and a credentialed media volunteer right on the pitch, and she joined Ned Reynolds, Scott Puryear, and Art Hains to give us the ultimate insider’s look at the beautiful game.

From Drury’s 2013 Glory to a Global Stage

For long-time local sports fans, Michelle is a familiar face from her days navigating the historic Drury University national championship run in Atlanta back in 2013. While we still reminisce about every single detail of that special title run 13 years later, Michelle notes that the scale of the World Cup is a completely different beast. The logistics, staff, and sheer coordination required to pull off multiple matches across Kansas City and North America are mind-boggling.

Wrangle Photographers and Photo-Bombing Algeria

Michelle walked us through the intense screening process she started last August to land a coveted media volunteer role. Working everywhere from the media center to acting as a pitchside photo marshal, she is responsible for keeping international journalists and photographers contained. It’s a high-stakes environment, but it comes with incredible perks—including a hilarious moment during the recent 3-3 thriller between Algeria and Austria where she accidentally photo-bombed an exuberant Algerian photographer!

Inside the Fan Culture & The “My Mom Calls It Soccer” Podcast

What makes this tournament truly unforgettable is the fan base dynamic. Michelle shared incredible stories of joining the legendary Netherlands parade featuring imported Dutch buses sporting Texas license plates. We also dove into the inspiration behind her podcast, My Mom Calls It Soccer, which she started with her son Chase to help casual sports fans learn the complex laws of the game without feeling overwhelmed.

Where to Watch Locally in Springfield

If you can’t afford the skyrocketing $1,200 ticket prices on secondary markets like SeatGeek, you can still catch the absolute best soccer atmosphere right here in Springfield. Michelle and the team highly recommend heading down to Mumbles on Commercial Street, where they are packing the house and showing every single match.

Who Will Win the 2027 NHL Stanley Cup?

July 2, 2026 11:36 am · vsin.com
AI Expert Analysis: As the NHL prepares for the 2027 Stanley Cup, recent developments in team rosters and betting odds present intriguing insights for bettors. The Washington Capitals have made significant strides, acquiring key players like Alex Tuch and Jordan Kyrou, which has led to a drastic reduction in their Stanley Cup odds from 50/1 to 22/1, alongside improved division and conference odds. This upward momentum suggests a strong betting opportunity, particularly with Ovechkin’s return adding veteran leadership. Conversely, the Edmonton Oilers are under pressure to perform after a disappointing playoff exit, and their odds reflect a cautious optimism following roster changes, including the signing of goaltender Freddie Andersen. However, the Oilers' historically slow starts could be a concern for bettors, especially with a new coach in Mike Babcock. The focus will be on how these teams gel early in the season, as trends indicate that strong starts can significantly impact playoff positioning. Bettors should monitor the Capitals for potential value in futures markets, while keeping an eye on the Oilers' performance in October to gauge their ability to meet heightened expectations. Overall, the Capitals appear to be a more favorable bet given their recent improvements and favorable odds movement, while the Oilers' situation remains more volatile.

How To Be A Winning Football Bettor Using DraftKings and Circa NFL Betting Splits

July 10, 2026 1:42 am · vsin.com
AI Expert Analysis: To enhance betting success in the NFL, understanding betting splits from major sportsbooks like DraftKings and Circa is crucial. Recent trends indicate that public sentiment often skews towards favorites and overs, which can lead to inflated lines that savvy bettors can exploit. For instance, if a game shows significant public backing for a team, yet the line moves against that team, it may signal sharp money coming in on the other side, indicating a potential value bet. Expert sentiment often aligns with identifying discrepancies between personal power ratings and sportsbook lines; for example, if a bettor's analysis suggests a team should be favored by 4.7 points but the line is set at 3, that creates an opportunity to wager confidently. Additionally, monitoring player injuries, weather conditions, and team performance trends can provide context that influences outcomes. As the 2026 season approaches, with betting activity expected to surge, leveraging these insights will be essential for bettors looking to gain an edge over the market. Understanding where the money is going, alongside the betting splits, allows for more informed decisions, steering clear of the pitfalls of public bias and enhancing the likelihood of profitable outcomes.

Steve Makinen’s MLB Picks from Betting Splits and Systems for Friday, July 10

July 10, 2026 12:14 pm · vsin.com
AI Expert Analysis: For MLB betting on July 10, 2026, key trends suggest focusing on teams with strong home performances and favorable matchups. San Francisco is riding a remarkable 25-4 streak against Colorado, boasting an impressive 52.2% ROI, making them a solid play at -155. Conversely, Texas struggles significantly after divisional series, with an alarming 22.2% win rate in follow-up games, indicating a fade opportunity at +119 against Houston. Additionally, Luis Castillo's teams have historically underperformed as road underdogs, prompting caution with Seattle at -102 against Tampa Bay. A notable betting system highlights the effectiveness of backing teams with superior bullpen and starting pitcher ratings, which have yielded a strong historical ROI. Detroit at -119 against Philadelphia and Houston at -143 against Texas fit this profile and should be considered for wagers. However, be wary of teams with elite starters but weak bullpens, as they have shown a negative ROI, suggesting a slight fade on Pittsburgh at -126 against Milwaukee and Cincinnati at -105 against Chicago. Overall, leveraging these insights can enhance betting strategies, particularly by capitalizing on strong trends and fading teams with unfavorable historical performances.

NBA Summer League Best Bets: Picks & Predictions for Friday, July 10

July 9, 2026 11:52 pm · vsin.com
AI Expert Analysis: In the NBA Summer League on July 10, betting insights suggest a favorable outlook for the Bucks, Nets, and Grizzlies, each positioned as strong contenders in their matchups. The Bucks, at -120 against the Heat, benefit from superior talent, highlighted by Brayden Burries, the No. 10 pick, and a solid supporting cast, which may outweigh Miami's competitive culture. The Nets, favored in a parlay against the Knicks, boast a talented roster that should drive them to seek revenge after New York's recent title run. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies are expected to capitalize on their pre-Summer League experience, with Cameron Boozer likely to outperform Caleb Wilson against the Bulls. The Suns, at -130 against the Trail Blazers, face concerns in their backcourt but possess a strong frontcourt led by Rasheer Fleming and lottery pick Khaman Maluach, who is anticipated to make a significant impact. Overall, the odds movement and expert sentiment lean towards these teams, making them attractive options for bettors looking to capitalize on talent disparities and team dynamics in the Summer League context.
